When funding is available, we offer computer skills training and career guidance to young people from local schools, and we organise HIV and AIDS awareness campaigns for community members.
Computer Skills Training |
Our computer training programme targets school leavers, the unemployed or any other community member who may be interested in developing their computer skills. These individuals are interviewed to assess their suitability for this training. The goal of this programme is to help community members become computer literate and employable. Students from the University of KwaZulu-Natal completing their Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology have designed the desks for our computers, and the training take places in one large classroom on our premises.

Career Guidance
|
Learners, especially those from local high schools, parents/caregivers and educators are invited during the school holidays to attend this programme, which is in a small way, a prevention component of our daily activities. Those who attend are addressed by high profile speakers on how to prepare for different careers, how to access bursaries and scholarships, and the importance of pursuing tertiary education. The learners are encouraged to focus on the importance of education, to maintain high moral standards, to be good role models for their siblings, and to help create an “AIDS free” society.

HIV and AIDS Awareness |
Although HIV and AIDS awareness has increased in our communities, our Caregivers still come across a fair amount of denial, stigma, myths and misconceptions about HIV and AIDS among community members. We invite our community members to attend our HIV and AIDS Awareness Programme where prevention, transmission and progression of the disease are addressed. We also discuss how to care for HIV infected patients. We invite relevant speakers to address the community, including people living with HIV, ministers of religion, educators, social workers and parents/caregivers.
